Cigarettes - Why Smoke?

Millions of teens and adults all over the world smoke cigarettes and are not fully aware of how it is harming them. Why smoke? If you really think about it, you’re not only risking your health but your risking the health of others. When it really comes down to it smoking is an addiction and that is the reason people cannot stop. The question is why do people even start smoking? First off, there is nicotine in cigarettes, the mind and body become used to it, and soon people need it to feel normal. Secondly peer pressure, which is found in all ages, teens and adults smoke to fit in, feel popular. Sometimes, peer pressure is all it takes, and then another smoker enters the world. Thirdly, if family members smoke it is often common to see teens follow in their parent or guardian’s footsteps. This is common in teens seeking attention, negative or positive the message is the same. I found a statistic while searching through Google and it was alarming. “9 out of 10 tobacco users start before they're 18 years old”. The majority of those teens do not quit. Smoking also affects your looks. Smokers often have yellow teeth, and reek of smoke. Smoke lingers on clothes, hair, etc. Smoking not only affects the health of you but it also affects the health of others. Second hand smoke KILLS and that is no exaggeration. Smoking is bad. The statement is a fact. Why take years off your life? Why look and smell bad? Why make yourself sick? Why risk the health of others? All these questions should be on your mind if and when you decide to light up. I know half of all college campus's smoke, and I know that no one is going to walk out of class one day and miraculously decide to stop. I know it is hard to stop, but think about it. Save yourself and others. Life is beautiful; give yourself the chance to live it. Don’t smoke, and if you do smoke stop.
